The Empire of Nostel, standing upon the snowy plains of the Northern Continent, is governed by the Emperor seated upon the Throne—an artifact capable of rewriting the laws of reality—and by the Five Great Houses, each excelling in their own distinct discipline.

What the Emperor desired above all was eternal life for himself and his people.\
The Throne granted this wish, and so the citizens of Nostel could not die by ordinary means.\
Yet, unable to trust even this, the Emperor ordered House Deol—the House of Dark Magic—to research resurrection magic.

The Carthago–Nostel War shook not only the Central Continent but sent deep tremors through the North as well.

Its greatest consequence was the death of the Emperor of Nostel.\
Despite his obsession with life, he was swallowed by the war and met an unceremonious end.

Thus, the Throne—an object capable of exerting overwhelming authority over the entire Empire—was left vacant.

The Five Great Houses began to watch one another, each vying for the empty throne.
